About Us

History

Did you know that football has been played in Charlbury for well over 100 years? In 1908 Charlbury Town alongside 3 other clubs formed the Witney & District Football League and the Charlbury Town Youth Team was formed in 1947.

In 1986 the friends and supporters of the football club secured premises for the purpose of socialising after the football games and locally this became known as 'The Club'. These premises had were vacated in 1998 to allow the building of the new Community Centre in Charlbury, but this never happened so the club has spent 18 years in temporary accommodation.

Sadly in 2016 we were once again forced to give up our premises to accommodate the building of the new community centre, this has unfortunately left us homeless. The Gifford trust kindly offered the club a piece of ground on the site of this new centre but unfortunately this proved to be to small to accommodate the club.

Working together

Since 2016 The Club Committee and Supporters have been working hard to secure planning permission and to raise funds to build a new clubhouse. The raising of these funds has been greatly helped by a grant of £70,000 by Charlbury Town Council and also £50,000 through the West Oxfordshire District Council community fund. These grants alongside smaller fund raising and donations has allowed us to start work on our new club house!

But there is still a way to go in order for us to have enough funds to complete the build and we are working hard to raise money. If you would like to help you can make a donation or even Buy a brick!

Work has already begun on the site and we hope to have it finished by the end of 2019 and you can see the proposed plans here which were designed by Robin Akers Ltd who used to play for the club.

The goal

When the club has been  completed we will be using any profits not only to support adult and youth football but also support any other sport that is played on Nine Acres and go towards improving the facilities.

The club will also be home for Pool, Darts and Aunt Sally teams and provide a venue to watch live televised sporting events together. We will also be hosting family events throughout the year such as  an Easter Egg hunt, Halloween Party, Christmas Party and anything else we can think of!

We will also be launching a new membership scheme which will be open to anyone who wishes to join (You don't have to like or play sport to join in at the club!)
